Fall Anime Trickster Recruits Actor for Bit Role Through Twitter

posted on by Eric Stimson
Autographed posters also available

It can be hard for an aspiring voice actor to get a career started in the anime industry (or any industry, really), but the upcoming anime Trickster: Edogawa Rampo 'Shōnen Tantei-dan' Yori offers them an unusual opportunity. It seeks an actor for a "mob character" (bit part), and it's recruiting via Twitter.

"I seek an apprentice detective" (a play on the series' tagline, "I seek a case where I can die").

The role is an apprentice detective. The character's appearance will be based on that of the voice actor selected. Applications are handled through the job website Baitoru, but it just involves posting a tweet informing your followers that you've applied (and inviting them to do so too). The successful applicant will be notified by direct mail on Twitter and will also receive a poster signed by Daiki Yamashita (Yoshio) and Ryota Ohsaka (Kensuke). One other person will receive just a signed poster, and three other people will receive unsigned posters.

Trickster is based on a famous mystery novel, Shōnen Tantei-dan ("Boys' Detective Club"), by Edogawa Ranpo. The main character, Yoshio, is a mysterious boy granted immortality by an unidentifiable mist. The anime is scheduled for an October 3 premiere.

Trickster isn't alone in seeking fan help in anime production; Mr. Osomatsu also sought a fan editor for DVD shorts and manga books.
