Yo-kai Watch Continues to Spook Visitors at Universal Studios Japan

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Yōkai Watch returned to Universal Studios Japan in Osaka this summer and will continue to spook visitors into January.

The Universal Yōkai Watch Festival includes the "Yo-kai Watch: The Real 4" which has visitors walk through a town street searching for hidden Yo-kai with the help of a Yo-kai Pad (map), Yo-kai Watch (which alerts the wearer to nearby yōkai) and Yo-kai Lens (which allows the Yo-kai to be seen). The setting is American-style to complement the new games, Yōkai Watch 3: Sushi and Tempura. The park will have exclusive yokai starting on October 7, including one modeled after The Terminator, "Nyaaminator," and the Demon King boss yokai.

Yo-kai Taisō the Real, where visitors dance along with Yo-kai to the famous Yōkai Watch ending theme, "Yōkai Taisō" (Yo-kai Exercise) will also continue. The "Nyaaminator Yōki Kenkyūjo" (Nyaaminator Magic Energy Lab) will quiz participants for a chance to get an exclusive Yo-Kai Medal.

Nyaaminator will also appear in the television anime on November 18. Visitors can also download the original monsters into their Yōkai Watch 3: Sushi and Tempura games starting on October 7.

Universal Studios Japan reported attendance numbers of 1.63 million for August 2016, an increase of 15% over the comparable figure from the previous August. The success is attributed to the popularity of its Universal Jump Summer, which showcases famous manga from Weekly Shonen Jump. The park will introduce Godzilla as part of its Universal Cool Japan 2017 line-up.
