Kadokawa Opens 1st Seiyū Training School for Young Children

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

Voice acting is an admirable yet difficult skill. But now, even a child can learn it.

Production Ace is starting up the Kids Junior Seiyū Training Project, aiming to teach young Japanese students in elementary and middle schools the fundamentals of voice acting. The program is currently recruiting.

Students will learn from the likes of Japanese blues singer and actress Kozue Saito as well as Yuu Mizushima, a prolific voice actor known for his roles as Neithardt Müller in The Legend of Galactic Heroes, characters in the Saint Seiya franchise, and as Takeshi Hirokawa in Parasyte -the maxim-. and has appeared more recently in tokusatsu dramas such as Jyūden Sentai Kyoryūger as Jealousy Knight Aigaron.

"We want to be able to inspire and motivate children with the work we do here," Mizushima has stated about the project. "We're looking forward to working with some motivated kids."

The training period lasts from this October to March of 2016, with sessions taking place every Saturday throughout the six months. Applications must be submitted by September 11. An early introduction will be held for free in August so potential applicants can check it out before applying.

The October classes will be divided by grade level: "elementary 1-3" "elementary 4-6" "middle school."
