Power Rangers' Tsuyoshi Nonaka Draws Easter Mecha
posted on by Chris Nishijima
Famed mecha designer Tsuyoshi Nonaka decided to get into the Easter spirit and put out a little something for his fans. Last year, Nonaka drew two separate robots, consisting of a chick hatching out of an Easter egg and a Giant Robo-bunny. This year, he decided to take it a step further, showing the combine ability of the two into what Nonaka called on his Facebook his "Bunny Megazord."
Nonaka has been drawing similar holiday-themed mecha for his Facebook page for a while now, including a robot Santa, a Turkey Transformer, and the most nightmare-inducing Halloween mech you will ever see.
Nonaka served as mechanical designer for the mecha anime series Shin Mazinger Shōgeki! Z-Hen and D.I.C.E., as well as the Mazinkaizer SKL original video anime. He has been a toy designer and planner at the Japanese toy company Bandai for more than 20 years. His duties include creating robots, vehicles, and weapons for children's television programs and transforming them into toys.
Nonaka has also worked as a designer for the live-action Super Sentai (Power Rangers) and Kamen Rider television series. Nanoka is the head of the American division of the Bandai affiliate company PLEX International Design, where he designs toys based on the Power Rangers, Ben 10 and Thundercats kids' programs. He has made various appearances at anime conventions including Fanime and Pacific Media Expo in California since moving to the United States in 2011.
