Unity Game Engine Gets Its Own Open Source Heroine
posted on by Chris Nishijima
Meet Unity-chan, the official heroine mascot of Unity Technologies Japan's Unity game engine. Revealed back in December of last year, Unity-chan has finally received full treatment as the heroine of a game engine and been made into a usable 3D model for game developers everywhere to use in their games.
Unity-chan was designed to show off the best features of Unity, highlighting its fluid motion and facial emotion variation capabilities. Unity-chan's model data can be downloaded as a package from Unity's asset store in Japan, or from Unity-chan's official website.
While on Unity-chan's page, you can also see her original concept art, read her official blog, stay up to date on Unity-chan news, and best of all, hear a recording of her voice.
Unity-chan has already started branching in terms of PR, having received an official collaboration laptop with personal computer manufacturers Mouse Computer in their specialized G-Tune line of computers targeted at heavy duty gamers as part of Unity's "Unite Japan" initiative. The laptop is currently available for preorder at G-Tune's website for 99,800 yen (about 978.64 USD), where you can check out all of the specs and details for it.
