Yuruart Festival Allows Fans to Submit Evangelion Themed Works for Contest
posted on by Chris Nishijima
Yuruart of Japan, a company that specializes in taking the nightmare-inducing Angels from the Evangelion series and making them strangely lovable, has decided that April 10 will be Angel Day. In order to celebrate, the art group has decided to hold their first ever Yuruart Festival, displaying some of their works online and in the Evangelion Store in Harajuku.
In addition to the art festival, the Yuruart Festival contest was designed to gather various fan works based off of the Angels from artists across the globe. Anyone, whether it be a painter, sculptor, or photographer can join in on turning Evangelion's eldritch abominations into adorable pieces of art in the same style as Yuruart by entering online using the official entry form and sending a picture of the work to Yuruart's email address. The first round of the contest has already begun as of March 15 and will run until March 31. After that, the second round of judging will go from April 1 to April 20.
Yuruart is known for bringing us the endearing rendition of Sachiel, the Third Angel, as a paperweight modeled after Rodin's Thinker, which will be presented to as a prize to the four grand prize winners of the contest, who will be announced on April 26.
Alongside their festival, Yuruart has contributed to the festivities by announcing a new line of cuddly plush toys based off of the Angels and other sinister things from the Evangelion series. The plush toys will for sale starting April 4, and will be available in nine different versions, including the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Tenth Angels, Lilith, the Seele Monoliths, an Entry Plug, and one of Kaji's watermelons. They will be available for 648 yen a piece and can be found on the online Evangelion Store.
