Artisans Sculpt Unique Ultraman Character Figures
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The Kutani Pottery Park Cooperative turned to local artisans in Nomi, Ishikawa to create three new Ultraman figures in its ongoing line. Nomi potters created Kaiju Booska, Ultraman Taro and Ultraman Ginga figures for a new total of 10 pieces since the project started in 2011.
The figures were painted by Nomi residents Taisei Yamagishi, 57, Toshito Nakamura, 64, and Kazunori Takekoshi, 57, using traditional glazing techniques. Each figure is about 10 cm tall and went on display at Ishikawa Traditional Craft Fair in Tokyo last month.
Fans can try their hand at painting a blank figure at the Kutani Ceramics Hall in Nomi this month.
Ghibli's utilized local potters for its My Neighbor Totoro products, including ceramic lamps and chopstick rests.
