posted on by Chris Nishijima
This year marks the 80th birthday of Doraemon's creator, Fujiko F. Fujio. In order to help kick of the festivities, Japanese magazine publishers Shogakukan has decided to put Fujio's iconic character on the cover of all 51 of their magazines, including fashion, technology, and of course, manga magazines.
Doraemon has already appeared on Shogakukan's fashion magazine "Oggi" on February 27 for their fourth issue of the year. Shogakukan has already previewed their upcoming Doraemon issues of informational magazine "DIME," coming out March 15, and manga magazine "Cheese!" on March 24. The cover of "Cheese!" will feature a special collaborative image between Doraemon and popular manga "KanoUso." Altogether, around 7 million copies of the 51 magazines will be printed this year.
The 80th anniversary will be capped off with the premiere of the latest Doraemon movie, Doraemon Shin: Nobita's Great Demon ~Peko and the Exploration Party of Five~, scheduled for March 8 of this year. For more information on the movie, visit the official website.
