Eight Voice Actors to Voice All 150 Characters in Japanese "Lego Movie" Dub
posted on by Eric Stimson
The Lego Movie, an upcoming American-Australian animated movie, imagines a world built entirely out of Legos and populated entirely by Lego figurines and tells the tale of a fight against the evil Lord Business, who is bent on gluing everything together. While the English cast is mostly comprised of Hollywood celebrities, the Japanese dub will consist of a mere eight voice actors — voicing over 150 characters.
Emmet, the ordinary guy mistaken for a legendary hero, will be voiced in English by Chris Pratt, but in Japanese by Toshiyuki Morikawa, known for voicing Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and Mitsurugi in the Soul Calibur series, as well as dubbing over Hollywood stars like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Wyldstyle, the resistance fighter who recruits Emmet, will be voiced by Elizabeth Banks in English, while Miyuki Sawashiro, who plays the famous femme fatale Fujiko in Lupin III as well as Puchiko in Di Gi Charat, will voice her in Japanese. Kouichi Yamadera, the voice of Inspector Zenigata in Lupin III, Spike in Cowboy Bebop, as well as the Japanese voices of Eddie Murphy and Will Smith, will play Lord Business, who is voiced by Will Ferrell in English. Other characters will be voiced by Akiko Yajima (Shinnosuke in Crayon Shin-chan, Relena in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing), Michio Hazama (Captain Global in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Hans Schubert in Monster), Tesshô Genda (the narrator in Shin Mazinger Shōgeki! Z-Hen, Optimus Prime in the Japanese version of Transformers), Hiroshi Iwasaki (Saito in Tiger & Bunny, Akaooni in Smile Precure!), and Yasuhiro Mamiya (Marduk in Street Fighter X Tekken, Ibachi in Ghost in the Shell Arise). The dub will be supervised by screenwriter Osamu Suzuki.
