posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
For the first time in broadcaster NHK's history, it will cast a foreign female lead during its Asadora! (morning drama) time slot. The actress will be chosen by audition and announced in February or March before the drama airs on September 29.
According to Asahi Shimbun, the drama is titled Massan and is based on the true story of Taketsuru Masataka and his Scottish wife Rita Cowen. Masataka is known for introducing Scottish Whisky to Japan when he opened his own distillery in Hokkaido in 1934. The scripts are being written by Daisuke Habara, one of the Japan Academy Awards-winning scriptwriters behind Hula Girls.
Massan will run for 150 episodes, each 15-minutes a piece, that will air six days a week. It is NHK's 91st Asadora! program.
