posted on
Square Enix began streaming a two-minute gameplay video from Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII that it is unveiling this week at E3. The video shows "Lightning travers[ing] the Yusnaan palace in pursuit of Snow," who Square Enix just revealed this week is returning in this sequel role-playing game.
The video reveals that the game will ship in North America on February 11, 2014, followed by Europe on February 14, 2014. It will be released in Japan on November 21.
Square Enix will offer a “Final Fantasy XIII – Lightning Ultimate Box” premium set on the same day as Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII in Japan. The Lightning Ultimate Box set comes packaged with all three games in the Final Fantasy XIII series, a soundtrack album packaged in an acrylic disc case containing carefully-chosen various tracks from the trilogy, a pamphlet containing original costume designs, and a Play Arts figure of heroine Lightning as she appears in the upcoming game. The box will retail for 26,000 yen (about US$260), and will be sold in limited quantities from Square Enix's online store. Normal copies of the game will cost 7,770 yen (about US$78).
The game will represent the final chapter in Lightning's story. The game centers around a 13-day countdown until the end of the world, and players must save humanity within 13 days and 13 nights.
