Universal Studios Japan Unveils Resident Evil Survival Horror Attraction
posted on by Karen Ressler
Universal Studios Japan is opening a new Resident Evil attraction this summer called "Biohazard (Resident Evil) the Real," in which players must shoot the "real" zombies that attack them. The survival horror attraction uses movie effects, sounds, and lighting to create an atmosphere that feels genuine. Players will use a shooting system with a model gun that weighs 700 grams (1.5 pounds) that is similar to practice shooting systems used by police and military around the world. The creatures will be designed to look real, and one of the attraction's highlights will be a two-meter (6.5-foot) tall Tyrant, which will be brought to life by special effects artist Shinichi Wakasa, who designed the suit for Godzilla.
The five- to 10-minute attraction has been designed to be very difficult: the company advertises a "roughly zero" percent chance of survival due to the virus multiplying, the player running out of ammo, and monsters appearing suddenly to block the player's advance.
The "Resident Evil the Real" attraction opens in July. Universal Studios Japan will also offer a variety of Resident Evil merchandise and menu items, including an Umbrella Corporation ID tag, a stylus that looks like a t-virus test tube, a S.T.A.R.S. cocktail, and brain pasta.
