Update offers spin dash, mid-game saves, recreation of old tube TVs
Sega revealed on Wednesday that it is porting the very first Sonic the Hedgehog game to the Nintendo 3DS in stereoscopic 3D in Japan next Wednesday. The 600-yen (US$6) download will join other 3D-updated offerings in the Sega Archives, such as 3D Super Hang-On and 3D Super Harrier.
The new version adds the spin dash move, mid-game saves, the option to skip to any stage or act freely, and the choice to play the Japanese or overseas version (with slightly different layouts and bonuses). The game even takes advantage of the stereoscopic display to allow players to recreate the rounded, bulged screen of a old CRT television. Otherwise, the update still retains the familiar six zones and speedy gameplay.
