Kazuo Umezu Draws Poster for Raimi-Produced Possession Film

Cat Eyed Boy/Drifting Classroom artist adds tie-in to Makoto-chan manga series

Horror manga author Kazuo Umezu (Cat Eyed Boy, Drifting Classroom) has illustrated a movie poster for producer Sam Raimi's (Spider Man, Evil Dead) The Possession horror film. Umezu's version mirrors the live-action film poster of a woman with a sinister hand protruding from her mouth.

In the drawn variant, Umezu added the word "Gwashi" on the palm of the hand. This is a reference to his series Makoto-chan, where "Gwashi" is a catch-phrase and accompanying pose used by the characters.

Ole Bornedal directed The Possession and it was released in the U.S. last year. The film opens in Japanese theaters on May 25.

Viz Media has released several of Umezu's manga in North America including Cat Eyed Boy, Drifting Classroom, and Orochi: Blood. Dark Horse Comics released several volumes of Umezu's Scary Books manga series and IDW Publishing released his Reptilia manga in 2007.
