Harlock/Yamato's Leiji Matsumoto Designs Fountain Pen

Japanese fountain pen company Sailor is offering a new pen designed by manga and anime creator Leiji Matsumoto. The Sailor9 pen features a spaceship-inspired shape with wing-like farings. Matsumoto's autograph is etched into the pen nib, and the tip of the cap has his skull design.

The pen is sold in a set with a holster-like pen sheath, an ink bottle etched with Captain Harlock on the lid, a converter, and a thank-you card featuring a drawing of Galaxy Express 999's Maetel.

The pen was released on April 20. The company made 500 sets for 52,500 yen (about US$528) each.

Leiji Matsumoto is known for creating Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato), Space Pirate Captain Harlock, and Galaxy Express 999. He also directed and supervised Daft Punk's INTERSTELLA 5555. His most recent work, the six-episode series Ozma, aired last year and was streamed by Crunchyroll and Viki.
