Game developer Sega and the official US PlayStation blog both announced on Monday that Sega Studios Australia is working on a "complete re-imagining" of Sega's classic side-scrolling adventure game Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. Sega will release the game on the PlayStation Network, XBox Live Arcade, and Windows PC worldwide this summer.
Sony noted that the developers have been working with the director of the original game to keep the game's iconic elements while updating the graphics and other functions that were previously limited by technology. Sega Studios Australia is working with Disney Interactive to develop the game. Sony also posted a 50-second trailer for the remake on Monday:
Sega originally released Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (known in Japan as I Love Mickey Mouse: Fushigi no Oshiro Daibōken) for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive worldwide in 1990. The game also inspired the recently-released Nintendo 3DS game Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.
