The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara noted in a comment regarding Tuesday's announcement about the new Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games that similarly to the new games, the franchise's anime, films, card games, and merchandise will "also enter a new dimension."
The two games will feature a new generation of Pokémon in 3D on the Nintendo 3DS. Ishihara revealed that with the release of the two new games the franchise will have more than 700 total Pokémon characters. Tuesday's announcement already previewed three new Pokémon: Chespin (Harrimaron), Fennekin (Fokko), and Froakie (Keromatsu). Ishihara additionally noted that in the new games players will also be able to catch Pokémon from previous games.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are currently in development in seven languages: Japanese, English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, and Korean. Nintendo plans to release the two games in more than 70 countries. Nintendo will release the games worldwide in October, which will mark the first time in the franchise that a new game is being released worldwide simultaneously.
