posted on by Andrew Osmond
Welcome party for two Japanese children orphaned by 2011 tsunami, 7.30 to 9.30 p.m.

The Aid for Japan charity is holding a Welcome Party on Tuesday December 18 for two Japanese girls who were orphaned by the tsunami in March 2011. Among the events at the party, there will be a Cosplay Competition sponsored by Tokyo Toys.

The event will also feature the Scots Guards Brass Quintet, flute and violin performances, and traditional Japanese dance. The venue is the Riverside Room at the Old Town Hall on Whittaker Avenue in Richmond, near the river (map). The event will run from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. Tickets for the event will be £8 in advance (book here) and £10 on the door.

The rules for the Cosplay Competition are as follows. Entrants 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult; under 16s must have parental approval to enter. It will not be possible for entrants to have their own music. Entrants will have one minute stage time to show their costumes (no performances). There will be three winners, who each get to choose a toy from a range donated by Tokyo Toys. There are more details here (scroll down the page under "December Party Cosplay Competition"). All queries about the Cosplay Competition should be sent to Sara Alam at [email protected]

The Aid for Japan charity was set up to support children who were orphaned by the Japanese tsunami until they reach the age of 20. The charity posted a video on youtube, featuring the two girls who are coming to the Welcome Party.
