Bodacious Space Pirates' Captain Marika Gets Nendoroid Figure
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The Japanese figure maker Good Smile Company will release a Nendoroid figure of the protagonist from the Bodacious Space Pirates television anime series. This super-deformed version of the high-school-girl-turned-pirate-captain Marika will ship in Japan this October.
The Nendoroid Marika Kato figure will come with three facial expressions as well as optional pirate hat, sword, and cape parts. The set will also feature replacement arms that people can pose with the sword or Marika's "Armalite Anti-Armor Beamgun."
The ten-centimeter (about four-inch) figure will be made of painted ABS and PVC plastics. The retail price will be 3,800 yen (about US$48), but the Japanese website for the online retailer Amazon is offering the figure for 3,489 yen (US$44).
An anime adaptation of Yūichi Sasamoto's Mini-Skirt Uchū Kaizoku (Mini-Skirt [Space] Pirates) space-opera novels was first revealed in 2009 for release in 2011. The television series was relaunched under the new Mōretsu Pirates title at Tokyo Anime Fair in 2010.
Bodacious Space Pirates premiered in Japan on January 7, and Crunchyroll is streaming the show as it airs. Sentai Filmworks announced in December that it licensed the anime series for release in North America.
