Researchers develop system for use with CG animation, games, other media
The You Tube channel for the DigInfo TV news website began streaming a Hatsune Miku video on Monday for an avatar system that tracks and mimics the user's upper body movements and facial expressions. In the 157-second video, Koichi Takahashi of Keio University's Graduate School of Science and Technology demonstrates and explains the system.
Takahashi suggests that CG animation hobbyists could use the system. The avatar system could also be utilized for games, virtual character events, and web dialog systems that use character images. The system functions with an algorithm that updates according to the user's motion.
