Harvest Moon Creator Reveals Project Happiness Game (Updated)

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
New simulation game to feature merchant protagonist

Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada revealed more details at E3 about his new game project with the code name "Project Happiness." Toybox Inc., Wada's new company, will release the game in Japan, Natsume will release the game in North America, and Rising Star Games will release the game in Europe in 2013. Wada noted that the game is intended for portable consoles, but he did not specify on which console or consoles the game will be released.

The simulation game will take place in a rural village and will revolve around a merchant who works toward making his or her store bigger, selling more items and merchandise, and attracting more customers. Itemization and constantly moving around the merchandise will be important to help to sell more items.

The game will start out with about 10 characters and as the player's store grows, more minor characters will be introduced for a cast of around 30 characters. The game's world will be inhabited both by humans as well as sprites called "pochikaru." The game will also contain other fantastical elements with gods, goddesses, and dragons also inhabiting the world. The player will be able to choose the gender of the protagonist and also be able to customize the protagonist's appearance.

Wada asked Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu if he may compose the game's music, but did not state that Uematsu is actually doing the soundtrack.

Famitsu is currently streaming an English announcement trailer for the game.

Update: Natsume is currently streaming the English announcement trailer on its YouTube channel.
