Cast, Theme Song Singer, Date for Toei's Ashura Film Announced
posted on by Ko Ransom
The Japanese music news website Natalie reports that the theme song for the upcoming anime film adaptation of George Akiyama's Ashura manga will be performed by Yasuha Kominami, a singer-songwriter who will be releasing her first major album on May 23.
In a separate article, the Anime! Anime! website revealed that the film would be released on September 29 of this year, as well as an incomplete cast list including Masako Nozawa, Kinya Kitaōji, Megumi Hayashibara, Tesshô Genda, Hiroaki Hirata, Bin Shimada, Kaori Yamagata, Kappei Yamaguchi, and Yuu Mizushima.
Toei's Ashura project was first revealed in 2010, and Keiichi Satou (Tiger & Bunny, Karas) was announced as its director in January of this year. The unrelentingly dark drama follows the struggles of a child during a famine in medieval Japan. His mother was so impoverished and starved that she tried to eat Ashura at the beginning of the story.
