July anime about female performers from Zetsubō-sensei & Toshidora creators
The June issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is announcing the cast of the Joshiraku television anime on Wednesday:
Ayane Sakura as Marii Buratei
Kotori Koiwai as Kigurumi Harōkitei
Nozomi Yamamoto as Tetora Bōhatei
Yoshino Nanjō as Gankyō Kūrubiyūtei
Saori Gotō as Kukuru Anrakutei
Only Saori Gotō is returning from the previous drama CD adaptation of the original manga by Kôji Kumeta (Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei, Katteni Kaizō) and Yasu (Toradora!, Mangirl!). The CD cast included Kana Asumi, Erena Ono, Ikumi Hayama, and Kana Hanazawa.
The manga follows the behind-the-scenes dressing-room conversations of a group of female (joshi) Japanese verbal show (rakugo) performers. Kumeta and Yasu launched the manga in the inaugural issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009, and Kodansha shipped the manga's third book volume last October.
The anime will premiere in Japan in July.
