Madoka Magica Spawns Live-Action Comedy with Shokotan

Nico Nico Douga announced a live-action comedy movie, loosely inspired by the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, with singer/actress Shōko Nakagawa ("Shokotan") as Madoka, 2channel founder and Nico Nico Douga director Hiroyuki Nishimura as Homura, model/actress Hatsune Matsushima (Akihabara @ DEEP) as Sayaka, Hamar@killer as Mami and Dwango executive Takeshi Natsuno as Kyubey. Nico Nico made the announcement at midnight on April 1 and added that Nakagawa had joined the company that runs Nico Nico — leading many to believe that the live-action project was just an April Fools' Day joke. However, the live-action project will actually debut at the Nico Nico Chōkaigi convention on April 28 and 29 as the fifth "Nico Nico the Movie." Hisanori Yoshida, a radio announcer and a performer of the traditional Japanese comedy storytelling rakugo, helped create the project.
Nakagawa will reveal more about the project on Wednesday evening during her regular Nico Nico Live program Shokotan no User Nama (Kōshiki).
