Three new members were announced on Saturday as additions to the cast of AKB0048, the Spring anime inspired by the all-female idol group AKB48. Broadcast dates were also announced for the series, and it will first air on April 29 on TV Kanagawa at 11 PM. The story is set in post-apocalyptic future when an idol group has risen up, assumed the name of the legendary group AKB48, and taken up the fight against the malevolent regime controlling Earth.
The three voice actresses will play legacy (or succession) members of AKB0048 who have assumed the names of the real-life AKB48 members. Nine real-life members of AKB48 (and its sister groups SKE48 and NMB48) will play the research students, or the trainee members who hope to one day become full AKB0048 members themselves.
Kana Ueda will play Tomochin, the 11th-generation idol to assume the name of real-life AKB48 member Tomomi Itano (also nicknamed "Tomochin").
Mamiko Noto will play Kojiharu, the 8th-generation idol to assume the name of real-life AKB48 member Haruna Kojima (also nicknamed "Kojiharu").
Ryōko Shiraishi will play Takamina, the 5th-generation idol to assume the name of real-life AKB48 member Minami Takahashi (also nicknamed "Takamina").
Yukari Tamura, Yui Horie, and Akemi Kanda were previously announced as starring in the series.
