Index/Railgun's Kamachi Writes New Occult Comedy Novel
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The newsletter for ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint revealed on Thursday that author Kazuma Kamachi (Toaru Majutsu no Index, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) will launch a new "occult comedy" novel called Intellivillage no Zashiki-Warashi. The work was born out of Dengeki Bunko Magazine's "illust x story" project. The novel, which will be illustrated by Masa, will go on sale on May 10. Masa had won first place at the 18th Annual Dengeki Illustration Awards last year. A zashiki-warashi is a spirit that haunts homes in the traditonal folklore of northern Japan.
As of last August, Kamachi's Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series, including the original series, the side stories, and the sequel series had sold 12.3 million copies altogether. In December, the third volume of Kamachi's Shinyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index sequel series (pictured at right) was the third consecutive light novel in the series to top Oricon's book ranking chart, selling 89,000 copies in its first two days of sales.
The first Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series inspired two television anime series, as well as A Certain Scientific Railgun manga that inspired its own anime franchise. A Toaru Majutsu no Index film adaptation was green-lit in October.
