'Love Udon' Noodles Offered for Matchmaking Events
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Konpiraya, a noodle-making company in the Southwestern Japanese prefecture of Kagawa, began selling "Love Udon," heart-shaped sanuki udon with a kissing couple on the packaging.
The noodle maker is marketing the "Love Udon" for holidays like Valentine's Day and White Day. White Day (March 14) is the unique Japanese holiday when men can give presents to women who gave them chocolates on February 14. Konpiraya is also targeting the udon for marriage interview parties, coupling parties, and other marriage hunting events.
Each bundle of pink or white noodles weighs 80 grams (about 3 ounces), and each package includes 20 milliliters (about 0.68 fluid ounces) of sauce. The udon is made from 100 percent domestic Japanese wheat and carefully cooked at a low temperature for 14 hours. Konpiraya is selling the "Love Udon" in its online shop for 500 yen (about US$6), and the noodles are also available at Gyaku Uchi Zeroban self-serve udon shops.
