Hatsune Miku Snow Sculpture Collapses, Injures Passerby

61-year-old woman struck in the back, taken to a hospital

The 2-meter-tall (about 6-feet-tall) snow sculpture of the Vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku suddenly collapsed in Sapporo on Tuesday, and debris struck a woman who was walking past it. The police investigation indicated that the warm weather caused the snow to weaken and collapse.

The collapse occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at the main area of the Sapporo Snow Festival in Odori Park. A clump of snow struck the back of a 61-year-old female sightseer, who was taken to a hospital.

According to weather reports, the highest midday temperature at Sapporo on Tuesday was 2.2 degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit), close to three degrees Celsius (4 degrees Fahrenheit) higher than the average year's temperature on February 7.
