Akagi Gambling Manga Inspires Valentine's Day Cookies
posted on by Egan Loo
The online store for Takeshobo's Kindai Mahjong manga magazine has begun accepting pre-orders for Valentine's Day and White Day cookies inspired by Nobuyuki Fukumoto's mahjong gambling manga Akagi. White Day (March 14) is the unique Japanese holiday when men can give presents to women who gave them chocolates on February 14.
The "Akagi Print Cookie 2012 (Valentine's Day & White Day)" set comes with five 75-millimeter (about 3-inch) cookies, each with a different character's face from the manga. Valentine's Day orders that arrive by February 6 will ship around February 10, and similarly, White Day orders must be received by March 6 for delivery around March 10.
The Akagi manga inspired the 2005-2006 television anime series Tohai Densetu Akagi -Yamini Maiorita Tensai- . Fukumoto also created the Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji manga and the various Kaiji manga and anime that followed.
