X Japan's Yoshiki to Compose 2012 Golden Globes Theme
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced on Thursday that the musician YOSHIKI, co-founder of the rock band X Japan, will compose the theme for the 69th Golden Globe Awards. The awards ceremony, which honors domestic and foreign films and television shows, will take place in Beverly Hills, California on January 15.
YOSHIKI attended the Golden Globes for the first time last year. Because of his background as a classical pianist and rock drummer, he said, "it was natural to create something beautiful that also has an edge" for the ceremony. YOSHIKI has composed music for film and television in the past.
X Japan has sold 30 million singles and albums worldwide and completed a sold-out world tour in November. The band released their newest single "Jade" in North America, Europe, and Latin America on June 28.
The musician's YOSHIKI Foundation, a non-profit organization originally dedicated to helping children with bone marrow disease, recently refocused its efforts to helping earthquake victims. The foundation held charity auctions to support earthquake victims last year.
