Tezuka's Hidamari no Ki Stage Play Cast

Takaya Kamikawa, Kōji Kikkawa star in historical drama next spring

Takaya Kamikawa (Gurren Lagann's Anti-Spiral, Naruto Shippūden: Blood Prison's Maroi; pictured left) and Kouji Kikkawa (live-action Rurouni Kenshin's Jin'e Udō; pictured right) will star in a stage play adaption of Osamu Tezuka's Hidamari no Ki historical manga.

The original manga takes place at the end of Japan's Tokugawa period (1603 - 1868). The story centers on the friendship between a young low-class samurai (Kikkawa) and a doctor (Kamikawa) as they live through the chaotic time.

Hidamari no Ki serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine from April 1981 to December 1986. Directed by Gisaburô Sugii, the 2000 television anime adaptation won the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs' "Excellence Prize" in the animation category at the Media Arts Festival that year.

The stage play starring Kamikawa and Kikkawa will run at Tokyo's Sunshine Theater from April 13 to April 23 of next year, in Osaka from May 4 to May 20, and in Aichi from May 24 to May 27.
