English Vocaloid Oliver's 'Scarborough Fair' Streamed
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
VocaTone began streaming the full version of the English Vocaloid singer Oliver's rendition of the song "Scarborough Fair" on Monday. The Utah-based company and PowerFX are releasing the character in connection with Vocaloid 3 development. A 13-year-old British boy provided the voice samples used in creating Oliver's voice.
After announcing the character on his official Facebook page on October 15, VocaTone unveiled Oliver's voice and design at Utah's Anime Banzai convention on September 22. The company posted demos of Oliver's "Scarborough Fair" and "Circus Monster" on YouTube on Saturday.
Lawlietlk, the artist who designed Oliver's image, noted inspirations for his appearance:
The main inspirations for his outfit were the uniforms worn by the Vienna Boys Choir, and the kinds of clothes upper-class boys and men would wear in the late 18th-early 19th century. When I was first put up to the task of designing for Oliver, I was told he was a "classical" type VOCALOID, so naturally I went for a classical design.
The bandages are there for the sake of keeping the whole "monster" theme that PowerFX is known for. Stitches didn't look quite right, so I went for bandages instead.
