Romancing SaGa's ItoKen Scores Music for Haganai Spoof
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Kenji Itō (ItoKen), composer for the Romancing SaGa role-playing game series, composed music for the fifth episode of the Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Haganai) television anime. The "Kondo wa SAGA ga Gachi na Tatakai ヽ(‘Д´)ノ" (Now the SAGA is a Mech Battle ヽ(’Д´)ノ) episode of the high school comedy anime aired today in Japan. In the episode, characters play a fictional Romancing SaGa parody game titled Romancing Saga 14.
Based on Yomi Hirasaka and Buriki's original light novel series, the Haganai's story centers on Kodaka — a half-Japanese/half-British transfer student whose delinquent-like blonde hair and fierce eyes scare people — and a seemingly perpetually sullen girl named Yozora. The two decide to form Rinjinbu, a club for misfits with hardly any friends. The anime series premiered on October 6, and Funimation began streaming the anime last week.
Square released the first Romancing SaGa game in 1992 for the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) game console. An enhanced remake of the game for the PlayStation 2 titled Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song was released in Japan and North America in 2005, and the original Super Famicom game was ported to mobile phone and Wii Downloadable versions in 2009. Itō has composed for all games in the series.
