Saki Anime Blu-ray Box to Bundle Mahjong Set

The Saki television anime series will be reissued in a Blu-ray Disc box set that will include a mahjong set on March 7, 2012. The retail listings for the box describe the mahjong set as the version seen in the anime. The box will also include a booklet and jacket illustrations by character designer Masakatsu Sasaki. The set will have a suggested retail price of 48,000 yen (about US$626), although many retailers will discount the price.
Gonzo's 5th Studio adapted Ritz Kobayashi's Saki high school mahjong manga into anime for the first 14 episodes in 2009, but Picture Magic took over for the rest of the series after Gonzo had to restructure. A new television anime project was announced in June, and the television anime adaptation of the Saki Achiga-hen episode of side-A manga spinoff by artist Aguri Igarashi (Bamboo Blade) is slated for next spring.
