Animator Shunji Suzuki Confirms Nichijō, R-15, Itsuten's Low Sales
posted on by Egan Loo
Shunji Suzuki, an animation director on the Evangelion franchise and Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water, revealed on Sunday that he went to an industry meeting that discussed the low sales of new Kadokawa anime titles from the July season (as well as the April season). According to Suzuki, Nichijō (My Ordinary Life) in particular did not come close to meeting the break-even line, thereby "destroying the myth of Kyoto Animation's" invincibility. Suzuki also said that R-15 and A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives (Itsuka Tenma no Kuro-Usagi/Itsuten) did not break even either. He added that there was apprehension about "a certain magical girl" work in the spring, but the title did eventually sell.
