PS Vita Lounge Planned for 150 at Tokyo Game Show
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The PlayStation Vita (PS Vita), Sony's successor to its PSP portable game console, will be on display at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) event in September. While general attendees can wait in line to try the PS Vita, a select group of attendees will have the opportunity to try the new console at greater length in the Special PlayStation Vita Lounge.
150 TGS attendees will be allowed into the PlayStation Vita Lounge on the second floor of Sony's booth. 100 of them will be PlayStation Plus members selected from random drawings, and the other 50 will be randomly selected from people who comment in certain blog entries on the PlayStation Vita community site. The selected attendees will still need to pay TGS admission, but they will be allowed into the Special Lounge for one hour to test PlayStation Vita games and other items.
The PlayStation Vita was first announced this January, under the provisional name of the Next Generation Portable (NGP). It was later previewed under the PlayStation Vita name at a press conference before the E3 show in June.
The console's specifications include an ARM Cortex- A9 core (4 core) CPU, a 960 x 544 5-inch display, 3G and Wi-Fi wireless communication support, GPS, dual analog sticks, dual touchpads (on the screen and on the rear), six-axis motion-sensing technology, front and rear cameras, and a microphone. It will also use memory card-based media to run games, as opposed to the PSP's UMD discs. Forthcoming games include Call of Duty, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Killzone, Resistance: Burning Skies, Wipeout, and Dynasty Warriors.
The Tokyo Game Show has business days on September 15-16, and then opens to the public on September 17-18. The venue is the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex near Kaihin-Makuhari station (directions) in Chiba Prefecture.
