Makoto Shinkai's Studio Recruits Background Art Interns
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The Japanese anime production company CoMix Wave Films announced on June 2 that it is currently accepting applications for background art internships. The unpaid internships will take place from August 1 to October 31. The application notes that applicants must be "around 25 years old or younger" with "artistic talent," a portfolio to submit, and transportation to the Tokyo-based studio. Applications are due to the company by July 15.
CoMix Wave Inc. is recruiting artists in the hope that they will be able to work on the future works of director Makoto Shinkai (The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 5 Centimeters Per Second). Trainees will learn how to create background scenery; if an artistically talented trainee happens to have no computer skills, the studio offers to train that person from the very basics.
CoMix Wave Films and Makoto Shinkai's latest feature film, Hoshi o Ou Kodomo (Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below), opened in Japan on May 7. Last month, the company launched an official English-language page on the social networking website Facebook for itself and anime director Makoto Shinkai.
The Japanese art sharing site pixiv is currently soliciting fan art based on Shinkai's works for an illustration contest.
