Darth Vader Samurai Dolls Offered for Boys' Festival
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The 300-year-old Tokyo-based Yoshitoku doll company is offering Darth Vader musha ningyō (armored samurai dolls) for the Boys' Festival/Children's Day holiday, which is held on May 5. It is customary in Japanese households on that day to display samurai dolls to wish for a successful future of sons in the family.
Yoshitoku is accepting preorders for the 30 limited-edition Star Wars dolls from May 9 to June 10. The resin-cast/metal doll costs 136,500 yen (about US$1,690), and is 52 centimeters (20 inches) tall. The figure holds a katana that resembles Darth Vader's red lightsaber.
Yoshitoku has previously offered Darth Vader yoroi (samurai armor) and kabuto (samurai helmet) displays, as well as a Stormtrooper kabuto display.
