Hair Salon for Otaku Opens in Akihabara
posted on by Gia Manry
On Friday, the videogame blog Kotaku posted a profile of Fuwat, a salon in Tokyo's Akihabara otaku shopping district. The salon specializes in services for otaku, such as having iPads as well as anime and gaming magazines on hand so that customers can request haircuts like those of anime and videogame characters. The salon also offers a wig styling service for cosplayers.
The salon opened on October 10, 2010. Its services range in price from 1,000 yen (about US$12.00) for a shampoo to 12,000 yen (US$150.00) for a cut and perm or straightening. A standard cut with a scalp massage costs 5,000 yen (US$60.00). The salon's menu does not differentiate between prices for a person's hair or a wig, but Kyodo News (via The Japan TImes newspaper) reports that wig styling can take up to a week.
