Aya Hirano to Make Stage Debut with Wuthering Heights Musical
posted on by Egan Loo
A musical version of Emily Brontë's classic English novel Wuthering Heights will open in Japan next July with Luna Sea singer Ryūichi Kawamura, voice actor/talent Aya Hirano, and former Morning Musume singer Natsumi Abe. It will be the debut stage performance for Hirano. Both Hirano and Abe will play the female lead Catherine, while Kawamura will play the male lead Heathcliff. Ikusaburō Yamazaki will also star as Heathcliff's rival for Catherine's affections, Edgar.
Hirano has gradually stepped away from voice acting roles this year as she pursued other avenues in the entertainment industry, such as television variety show appearances. The Japanese company Mangabank adapted the original Wuthering Heights novel into a manga for a Japanese DVD/book bundle of the 1939 black-and-white film version starring Laurence Olivier.
