Trivia:

Following Transformers: Age of Extinction, Michael Bay initially announced he would not direct any further installments of the film series. In January 2016, Bay decided to direct this film, stating it would be his last in the series.

Tyrese Gibson was slated to reprise his role as Epps from the first three films, but he was unable to join the cast due to his scheduling conflict with The Fate of the Furious.

This is the second Hollywood film to be shot in Cuba following the restoration of diplomatic relations between the country and the United States. The first U.S. film shot in Cuba was The Fate of the Furious, which was released in the same year.

With a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 16%, this is the worst-reviewed installment of the Transformers film franchise.

The film sparked controversy when Blenheim Palace was used as a stand-in for Adolf Hitler's headquarters in the World War II flashback scene. Veterans of the war protested the scene, calling it "symbolically disrespectful" to Sir Winston Churchill, who was the British Prime Minister during World War II and had resided at Blenheim Palace.

The film received nine Golden Raspberry Award nominations in 2017, but won neither of them.
