Dark Horse Releases 1st Drifters Volume in 3 Years

posted on by Karen Ressler

Dark Horse Comics revealed in its June solicitations that it plans to release the fourth volume of Kouta Hirano's Drifters manga on August 9. The volume shipped in Japan in October 2014, though Dark Horse has not released a new volume of Drifters since March 2014.

Dark Horse also confirmed with ANN that it will release the fifth volume — the most recent volume that Shonengahosha has released in Japan — in December. The company is also planning a new printing of the first volume in April.

Hirano (Hellsing) launched the manga in 2009 and Dark Horse licensed the series the following year.

The story of the Drifters manga centers around Shimazu Toyohisa, the real-life samurai who fought in the pivotal Battle of Sekigahara. In his dying moments, Shimazu is transported to a world of magic with other famous warriors throughout history. These warriors are forced to fight each other in an endless battle.

The television anime adaptation premiered in Japan on October 7. Funimation has acquired the home video, video on demand, broadcast distribution, and streaming rights for the anime from NBCUniversal. Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles. The 12th and final episode teased a second season in "20XX."
