Anime Expo New York
The First and probably last Anime Expo New York took place on Labor Day weekend 2002 in New York City along side the Big Apple Anime Festival, which was celebrating its second annual event.
AXNY was a sort of dress rehearsal by The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) for their planned 2004 convention in Tokyo, Japan. Nonetheless it seems likely that New York City will play host to a major Anime convention next Labor Day and Labor Day 2004. Central Park Media has arranged to hold their event, which will surely be as much a convention as a festival, at the same hotel, the Marriott Marquis, for the next two years.
This year Anime News Network sent Mikhail Koulikov and Krissy Naudus to Anime Expo New York, and these are the reports they brought back:
Pioneer Entertainment
ADV Films

Meanwhile, for coverage of the Guest of Honor and Focus Panels, ANN recommends A Fan's View's coverage of the event.
