ADV's license and other announcements were presented by the trio of John Ledford, Matt Greenfield, and David Williams. As reported earlier, ADV has acquired the license to the original Macross TV series, previously released in the US by AnimEigo. Unlike AnimEigo, ADV hopes to produce a dub for the series, thus potentially making Macross available in English for the first time. ADV has also signed agreements with Cartoon Network to show the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, with Showtime to show Chrono Crusade and Peacemaker Kurogane, and with G4 to show Colorful.
The issues that have caused the second volume of Princess Tutu to be delayed have been resolved, and it is scheduled for release some time in the fall. Release of the second season of Kaleido Star will commence by the end of the year or early next year, after the Season 1 Thinpak is released. Other planned Thinpak releases include Angelic Layer, Those Who Hunt Elves, and the Slayers motion pictures. Coming up on the release schedule in September is the special edition of Sakura Diaries, in October, the first volumes of Godannar, Yumeria, Ghost Stories and Magical Detective Loki Ragnarok, and in November, the first volume of Legend of Moby Dick – exact title subject to confirmation. On the other hand, ADV has decided to pass on releasing Tactics, which was originally announced as a license at the 2004 Anime Expo.
The replacement for Lagoon Engine Einsatz, which is currently being serialized in ADV's Newtype USA magazine, will be the Neon Genesis Evangelion: Girlfriend of Steel manga, which will be retitled Evangelion: Angelic Days. It is not clear at this point whether ADV will also be able to publish this manga outside of the magazine.
ADV's Anime Network is now received in over 20 million households. The “subtitle sessions” will now become a regular feature, and ADV is hoping to have subtitled versions available of all the anime that air on TAN. In general, The Anime Network will be used increasingly to help establish the market for older or less well-known anime which will then be released on DVD.
Update: ADV Films announced that they will be releasing "The Fuccons" in North America. Released in Japan as "Oh! Mikey", The Fuccons is the story of an American familly that moves to Japan. Generally described as very bizarre, The Fuccons was filmed with mannequins using stop motion animation. The Japanese licensor requested that ADV release the title as The Fuccons; it has been released in other markets under that name as well.
ADV Films confirmed with us that Evangelion: Angelic Days will be released in graphic novel format in addition to its serialization in Newtype USA.
