I do tend to be suspicious about the motivations or pop-cultural IQ of any mainstream film that puts Harajaku, Hello Kitty, and Bronies in the same sentence... Confused

Well, I await to see how this film will turn out. Maybe there will be some supernatural elements occurring at Pon Pon Pon levels. Wink

I've yet to see a mainstream show or movie portray any kind of geek culture accurately. Usually it's cringeworthy stuff like this that doesn't make any sense to the people actually into the hobby. If they're trying to put all of these people into the same category then I have no idea what they're looking for.

Yeah I'm a little terrified of these groups being very misrepresented, especially in a movie with Jennifer Aniston. But well they did ask for diversity so maybe it can't be all that bad? At least that rules out the 'look at the Japanese doing weird stuff' scenario.

It sounds to me like rather than having to explain exactly what kind of colorful clothing they're looking for, they picked 3 naturally very colorful-looking fashions. Just asking for Harajuku or Brony or Hello Kitty lovers might bring in numbers too small, so WITH THOSE FORCES COMBINED...

You get a sea of colorful clothes!

Edit: for bad grammar.

If it's "Office Christmas Party", I'll take a wild stab and say that it's a party where the couple end up on some crazy unending journey through wacky complications on one eventful evening, including "Oh no, they've run into wacky convention fans of...whatever those trendy things crazy colorful convention geeks are fans of!"

Not exactly inviting the most sympathetic or up-to-date depictions.
(And if it was in San Diego, maybe, but then it wouldn't be Christmas.)

The other groups are primarily women. Bronies, on the other hand, are male by default, hence the name. Though its usage is ambiguous on whether it's male-only or unisex. "Pegasisters" would be a better word to use if they're specifically looking for women, but that's much too obscure.

There ARE cases like Simon Pegg's insistence on portraying any video game that appears in any production with him involved as accurately as possible and South Park doing prior research on topics like Star Trek and Yo Gabba Gabba!.

This, however, definitely reeks of the clueless variety.

NCIS, if I recall correctly, is the show where the investigators are trying to hack something and is sped up by two people sharing halves of keyboard. NCIS is rather notorious for complete and utter research failure.
