Nostalgia-mining latter-day sequel/remake of a popular old movie bombs?

But that never happens.

The reason being....? Awful acting? Half-assed script?

Meanwhile in Hollywood: "Hey, why don't we remake Ben-Hur?"
The chariot race scene will be in full CGI, calling it now. Crying or Very sad

I haven't seen this new one, so I really can't say.

But they don't really make movies like the original one anymore. It was a lot more drama-heavy and character driven. It certainly tackled some edgier material that I know this remake won't have the guts to do.

A lot of these recent remakes are just all style and no substance.

Oh well, maybe Kanna should go into voice acting for anime, she already has a little experience as one already.

Totally unfortunate that SSMG failed miserably at the box office. Perhaps the folks just didn't show much interest...

No surprise. Looked like another cheap as heck throwaway film made on a shoestring with a handheld digicam, trying to get some cash out of bored teenagers' pockets. In the trailer it looked like a fun mix of terrible acting, pussyfooting around drug references & somehow making a scene as "iconic" & simple as shooting the machine gun look tacky & dumb. At least Hollywood puts money behind this type of crap.

Schoolgirl, sailor suit, yakuza & machine gun?
Sounds like something Media Blasters would release in the US.

Just because there's a hit J-idol doesn't necessarily translate to the movie screens.

Heck, even Japanese music stores are now debating:

  • Japanese music stores engage in war of words over idol handshake events:

Has music become nothing more than extra content for idol handshake events?

Perhaps because they had a poor marketing campaign? I live in Japan but didn't see as much as a peep about this movie until reading this article. Of course it may have to do with where I live also.

After reading this article,it seems that old Hello Kitty was unable to charm anyone in Japan to see this film. I haven't seen this version or the original so I really can't say. I hope Hollywood doesn't decide to do a remake of this film. Most Americans wouldn't have seen either film and would probably lose money.

Theaters are expensive in Japan, its like 20 bucks.. I would choose what I watch and there are alot of other great Hollywood movies or animes to choose from.
