The Force is strong with Japan. They've been selling pre-sale tickets. The Japanese are going to be ready for this movie.

Japan has consistently the 2nd largest Star Wars market for over 30 years. Even though the TitanXL bots want to say U.S. cartoons are duds in Japan, they cannot deny the best seller status of Star Wars Clone Wars.

Star Wars is huge in Japan. Far more popular than most traditional anime franchises.

Okay I can understand maybe one of the 100s of lesser temples in Kyoto doing something like this for a publicity stunt but Kiyomizudera?

That's maybe the #1 or #2 temple in Kyoto! It's the one with the giant balcony people used to throw themselves off of.
(It's quite beautiful, I totally recommend it).

I just hope it's displayed somewhere where it doesn't get in the way of the traditional beauty of that more than 1000 year old temple and world heritage site...

^Right, because one of the world's most nonreligious countries outside Scandinavia can't host a Star Wars event at a temple which is admittedly more a major tourist attraction. It's not a publicity stunt, rather Kiyomizu-dera has sufficient capital to make deals with companies like Disney for high-profile events, which most the hundreds of "lesser" temples in Kyoto can't.
