Don't know about the Internet, but from what I understand it needs a super majority of the signatories ( Based on economy size. ) to approve it.
So, essentially it won't go into effect without the US and right now the President's own party in Congress is giving him grief. So, let's break out the popcorn it's gonna' be quite a show. Mark Gosdin |

So doujinishi most likely will be safe but I've read through 900 pages yesterday night and early this morning of TPP and there's still a crapload of corporate tyranny still in the bill despite some of the most insidious stuff being removed from it and a lot of it pretty much will destroy Japan no matter what. As for the internet, it's going to be a wild ride especially with the fact that search engines and ISPs can block sites and results and get legal immunity from doing so.

As I said in the previous thread about the TPP I think that it will not have a negative effect on doujinshi. This article just reinforces my belief.
If the TPP does get enacted in Japan the prosecutors will be going after pirates, not doujinshi artists. So far I have not seen any comments from anybody in Japan who is in favor of curtailing doujinshi. |

Well if it really is up to whether the US agrees than it will never happen. Even if it does, a bunch of people will fight it claiming it's encroaching on their freedom of speech and right top express themselves. And if that happens it will definitively fall. Or at least that's what I think.

They've already passed the TPA for the US which states that they only need a simple majority to pass the TPP, which they easily have. Back to the article, that's pretty much what is always said before they do that very same thing. Add in the chapters of the TPP that allow corporations to sue countries for laws that hurt their profit margins (like regulations created by the EPA, FDA, etc.) and it's a total disaster. The way it's worded you can have a public hospital be sued because it's too close to a private hospital. |

You're under the assumption the US lives under a representative government - we don't. The fact that congress is at lower approval ratings than the British government before the Revolution should tell you that, not to mention all the outcry against CISPA that got ignored. |

Still doesn't mean we should just ignore the TPP. The crap that's within that thing is horrid. It allows governmental and corporate censorship on people. This thing needs to be struck down, the politicians who supported this also need to be hung out to dry.

It's going to take some serious outcry for it and in all honestly I'm pretty cynical about this thing getting canned. The average person isn't willing to read the sheer amount of shit in this to make a sound judgement. They'll only know what the news in their country tells them about it and yeah...you can guess how well that will go. |

But if for some reason he has motivation to go through with it despite that, there's almost no motivation for him to listen to them. He's not facing re-election ever again so there isn't much harm for his career if he does this. On the other hand, he did finally reject the Keystone Pipeline after all this time. So maybe he's actually listening to people. |

We only have three months to fight this corporate friendly/anti consumer bill. Honestly I don't think we have enough time to spread the word, garner support/outcry to stop this. |

And even then you imply that Congress will care about what people say, when businesses and corporations are lobbying MILLIONS of dollars at Congress to rush this through as quickly as possible. |

He may not be facing re-election but he's been causing more damage to his own party than he thinks. Since he's been elected the Democrat party has lost more than 900 seats nationwide across state, county, and municipal levels. Governorships are 33/17 for Republicans, but it is in no way love for the Republicans that they are getting elected. Neither of the parties are getting things done and just pointing their fingers at each other, including the president. |
