Not a lot interests me in today's X Button. Trails in the Flash II reminds me we still have such a long way to go if we want to even remotely catch up with the Trails series, but at least Second Chapter is on its way, slowly but surely.

I guess Smash 3DS will be the game on everyone's minds until this Friday (seriously the demo sucks; I'm amazed people can't be more patient, but I guess we're at that point where everyone demands anything related to a new product's release, no matter how minuscule).

you know, including the Short Peace game only in a bundle with the movie is certainly a middle finger to those who bought the movie already. That's the current gaming industry for you, where ripping you off is never enough.
They could have included a code to get a free copy of the game if you bought the BD/DVD for when the game would eventually be out,or warned us that the game would only be bundled with the movie, but like I said, they have to rip you off as much as they can, that's how this goddamn industry works these days...

Finished Danganronpa AE the other day, and just finished CRYING LIKE A BABY while reading the Danganronpa novel. One word: Kanon
I would have to disagree that it's less dialogue heavy. 75 percent of the game is dialogue. Not a bad thing.

Also, as a warning, this game is about 100 times more violent, dark and disturbing as the other games. There is no way this cannot get an M rating in America. Some of the themes include sexual abuse, mutilation, gore, graphic kissing (is that dangerous? Lol), and well, sexual innuendos.

I'm strangely drawn to TENKAI KNIGHTS: BRAVE BATTLE. Mostly because its an action platformer. And I can always use more of those.

Why did Ranko Tsukigime's Longest Day take a while to reach North America? I suspect some behind-the-scenes quibbling.

Because Namco Bandai Japan's run by morons who don't really care about our market?

You should be glad at all that Sentai was nice enough to get the film at all for you on home video. If Namdai had its way, the entire thing would be a stream-only affair, even after it got an Oscar. But hey, the game wasn't included in the actual anthology in theaters, anyway, so it's a money-grab in either country. Besides, Short Peace was probably not a cheap investment, and they need to be in the black on it, somehow.

Pretty excellent column!

I just hope Danganronpa doesn't take forever in localization process.
I think it's a very refreshing change of pace since the 2D art-only feel of the original/core games are kind of limiting in showing off the more visceral violence/sexual nature of the series. And I'm so glad to see the transition wasn't half hearted, but a full steam ahead effort. I REALLY wan to see a sequel to this action side of Danganronpa.

I am seriously worried for Fatal Frame since the Wii U is struggling so mightily and horror games traditionally don't get huge numbers even if they're available on both Eastern and Western audiences.

As for Last Guardian, I don't think it's worth putting much stock on its hype unless there's a definitive release date that is shown off. I think it's pretty obvious that the PS3 versiosn will never happen and that transition to the PS4 will likely take a while. And I bet they'll just make new assets entirely rather than tirelessly porting everything over.

Doesn't sound as bad as the extreme necrophilia hinted at in the 2nd game.

Nagito was the poster child for self-mutilation variant in DanganRonpa 2 so it's not unfamiliar territory.

Every game that was localized had sexual innuendo even those not intended to be sexual in nature.

So SNK Playmore keeps up appearances with pachinko and smartphone titles. Their latest repackages Samurai Shodown (yes, that's how they always spelled it) for mobile devices and…well, at least it's not a pachislot game.

By "pachinko" does that refer to actual, physical machines or digital pachinko? Because I never understood why digital pachinko even exists, as unlike its bocci-derived brethren, it's barely even a game. It's a gambling device. Bagatelle is more of a game than pachinko. And on top of that, considering how long it's taken to make digital pinball with decent physics (well, physics realistic enough to do proper live catches, flipper passes, and such), it sounds like a waste to have resources for good ball physics go to pachinko.

Sorry about the rant. I am a pinball fan. I don't mind the existence of pachino much. In fact, I find pachinko interesting, though mostly as a study of divergent evolution, as it also exhibits convergent evolution. (For instance, pachinko switched from electromechanical to solid-state at about the same time pinball did, and it became dependent on licensed themes at about the same time too.)

The Fatal Frame title translation that numerous gaming websites have picked up seems like a missed opportunity-- "raven-haired" is a close enough idiomatic expression to "nuregarasu." Though as this page points out, Fatal Frame 3's title wasn't literally translated since it just doesn't sound very scary.
