What have I seen theatrically? Let's see... at minimum, and in no particular order (deep breath):
Evangelion 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.0 / 3.0+1.0 Ghost in the Shell (3-4 times) Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence Ghost in the Shell New Movie Akira Paprika The Boy and the Heron The Wind Rises My Neighbor Totoro Spirited Away Princess Mononoke Earwig and the Witch Pokemon: The First Movie Revue Starlight Promare your name Weathering With You Suzume Ride Your Wave Ponyo Josee, the Tiger, & the Fish Blue Giant My Hero Academia Two Heroes / Heroes Rising / World Mission One Piece Film Gold / Film Red Redline The Deer King Goodbye, Don Glees! Inu-Oh Summer Wars Belle Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Shirobako Children of the Sea Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Konosuba Saga of Tanya the Evil MFKZ The Boy and the Beast From Up on Poppy Hill The Secret World of Arietty Fullmetal Alchemist: Sacred Star of Milos Trigun: Badlands Rumble Tekkon Kinkreet And maybe Appleseed, Vexille, and Nausicaa??? Man, when I list it all out like that, I've really been fortunate to see so much anime in a theater over the years, and most of them have been great experiences. While I will go see Ghost in the Shell on the big screen at any and every opportunity, getting to see Redline in a theater when it was new probably remains my favorite experience of all of those, followed closely by film festing Paprika and Evangelion 2.0's taking the story off the rails. Not done for the year though, as I'm adding Tokyo Godfathers to the list tomorrow thanks to Anime Expo's Cinema Nights screening it all over the place this week. If you can get out to it today or tomorrow, you absolutely should. |

The only anime movies I've seen in the cinema, in chronological order, have been: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods, Saint Seiya: Legend of the Sanctuary, The Wind Rises, Dragon Ball Super: Broly and just last week I saw Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning
I have to admit that watching an anime movie on the big screen is truly an unique experience, here in Argentina, despite the popularity of anime itself, it was kind of rare seeing anime movies on cinemas, Dragon Ball, Pokémon and Ghibli films were the only things that seem to arrive. In the last few years, however, companies like konnichiwa Festival, among others, have borught more anime to different cinema chains across Latin America, just last week I saw that Cinemark/Hoyts were screening AKIRA, and last year there was a Ghibli movie festival. Some movies are more popular than others, I remember there were few people when I went to see The Wind Rises and the same happened with Digimon last week, but Dragon Ball always draws huge crowds, and this year The First Slam Dunk and Demon Slayer: To the Swordsmith Village were pretty successful |

I'll add my own viewing list, in random order. I think these are most of my theatrical watches.
The Boy and the Heron Nausicaa Castle in the Sky Grave of the Fireflies My Neighbor Totoro Kiki's Delivery Service Only Yesterday Porco Rosso Pom Poko Whisper of the Heart Princess Mononoke My Neighbors the Yamadas Spirited Away The Cat Returns Howl's Moving Castle Ponyo Arrietty From Up on Poppy Hill The Wind Rises The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (traveled to Nashville, TN from Atlanta, GA to see it) When Marnie was There Ocean Waves (plus Ghiblies short) Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro Perfect Blue Pokémon the First Movie Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time Trigun Badlands Rumble Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card (plus Clear Card Prologue) Horus: Prince of the Sun Lu Over the Wall Boy and the Beast Mary and the Witch's Flower Millennium Actress Modest Heroes No Game No Life Zero Sailor Moon R Movie (once as a single billing, once as a double feature with S) Sailor Moon S Movie (double feature with R) Steamboy Summer Wars Your Name I've seen a buuuuunch in large convention viewing areas, including premieres. Can't remember all of those, but I know I saw one of the Bleach films (maybe 3: Fade to Black?) and that was a pretty fun experience. I had seen maybe 3 episodes of the show and didn't know what the heck was going on but the room was hollering at every character coming on screen. I think the collective swooning/squeeing from Hitsugaya coming on screen was so deafening it was hard to hear the movie. Also, I didn't get to see Sailor Moon SuperS in theaters because work refused my time request off and I'm still incredibly bitter about it, years later. Share in my deep-seated rage. |

Of the Studio Ghibli films, the ones I first saw in theaters are Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and The Wind Rises, and I'm planning to see The Boy and the Heron this weekend as well. I haven't seen many anime films in theaters other than that, aside from Colorful (not to be confused with the 1999 anime series), In This Corner of the World, and the first My Hero Academia movie.
Even if I haven't seen many anime movies in a theater, though, it's definitely a welcome experience. I remember being mesmerized by Spirited Away when I first saw it as a budding 11-year-old anime fan, and I even went to see another screening of it many years later just to get that feeling again. |

Probably the majority of films I see in theater in recent years are anime. It's always nice to see beautiful 2D animation on the big screen, and I like to support the smaller names whenever I can (stuff like Fireworks, Maquia, Pancreas, etc). Probably the most niche one I saw being Haikara-san Part One... which sadly (I assume) didn't do well enough to warrant Part Two getting a theatrical release as well. Flashy spectacles like Promare and Demon Slayer Train were a lot of fun though, and anything from Ghibli, Shinkai, and Hosoda are always a treat for the eyes too.
I would really love it if more older anime films could get screenings. We get Ghibli stuff pretty regularly, and occasionally a few other big names (things like Perfect Blue, Akira, and Ghost in the Shell). One day I'd really like to see 5 Centimeters Per Second in theater, or some things like Memories or Robot Carnival would be great. Oh, and Angel's Egg... What a sight that would be. |

I have exactly one anime movie story, and it's for that Starlight Revue movie, which makes it even more topical.
I was fairly early to the theater and towards the back, so I was watching folks coming in as showtime neared. Mostly it was couples or singles, which was pretty much what I expected--but then this big group of people, clearly all friends, come in and take up almost the entire row in front of me. At first I think it's some kind of college outing, like for an anime club or something, but I notice there's one young woman going over the plot of the series, so I figure it must be a mix of fans and their friends instead. Movie starts, and it's great, and very much a movie-ass movie. Had a lot of fun, barely knew what going on, enjoyed it immensely. Lights turn back on, people start filing out, and as I'm packing up my things I see one of the guys turn to the woman and loudly go "What the f--- did you just make us watch?!" which just sets everyone else off. From the way they were going on, it sounded like she was the only one who knew the plot, so they all start chatting about all the weird imagery and everything as they walk out. It was just the icing on the cake for me. That poor guy was so indignantly confused.

I only went to the theater twice this past year and it was for The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie and Suzume. I plan on seeing The Boy and the Heron this month.

I've seen a fair few anime films in the cinema, but the one that sticks in the mind the most is Millennium Actress, in a festival screening in... 2002? Or so. Bright shiny new movie, no spoilers -- this was before spoilers -- but high expectations... and me and my friends walked out with our expectations completely blown away.

Of the 158 movies/specials I have watched to completion, 61 have been in a theatre. I jump at any chance I get to watch anime on the big screen. I live in Toronto, so we get most releases, although sometimes there's only a few screenings so you have to be on the ball. Just saw The Boy and the Heron last night, so that's my latest foray.

Come to think of it, how many anime films HAVE I seen in theaters?
Spirited Away Princess Mononoke Castle in the Sky Your Name Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale A Silent Voice Mary and the Witches' Flower Hanabi (Fireworks) The Night is Short, Walk On Girl Liz and the Blue Bird Mirai Promare Sound! Euphonium - Our Promise: A Brand New Day Weathering With You Children of the Sea Suzume That's more than I expected, actually. 
I'm pretty sure my first experience was one of the Miyazaki films - probably Spirited Away during Ghiblifest - but my first experience with a new release was Your Name, which was spectacular and probably cemented anime as a priority for my theater goings. It's hard for me to compile a complete list of anime I've seen on the big screen both because I saw many different anime films at FantAsia in Montreal between 1996 and 2004 (moved to Ottawa at the end of 2004 although I've seen a few at Ottawa International Animation Festival) but also because I was in an anime club starting way back in 1994 and they showed anime via video projector in an auditorium at Université de Montréal, so there are many anime films such as Spriggan and Whisper of the Heart where I'm a bit hazy as to whether I only saw them at the anime club or at FantAsia.
Very incomplete list, I'll probably edit in a few more movies in later. Oh yeah, that was it. I scanned other people's lists to see if they had the title but I initialy skipped over your post because it wasn't in list format. Thanks. Yeah, the screening I went to for that movie was poorly-attended to the point where I may have been the only person in the theatre. If there were others, they left before I did. |

I know that feeling, too. I've only seen 3 in a theater myself since Rise of Skywalker in December 2019: the latest Evangelion movie, The Boy and the Heron, and a Rifftrax Live of the movie Rad. All were this year. Just wanted to send some well-wishes your way and I hope you get to feeling better. |
